GEORGE M!, the rousing high-energy musical based on the life of George M. Cohan, opened on Broadway fifty years ago today– on April 10, 1968. Starring Joel Grey and featuring Bernadette Peters, GEORGE M! retold the story of the legendary entertainer’s life using Cohan’s own songs, which included “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” “Over There,” “You’re A Grand Old Flag,” and “Give My Regards to Broadway.”
To celebrate the show’s Golden Anniversary, here’s a gallery of rare photos from the original Broadway production. Happy 50th Birthday, GEORGE M!
